From the early days of
the industry, the cowboy has been at home in Hollywood. With the frontier
at its backdoor, Hollywood and the western landscape were natural
partners. The wide-open plains, towering buttes and big skies became
the backdrop for some of Hollywoods most enduring images. Simple
and straightforward, the western upheld a sense of morality, where
the good guys wore white, justice was swift and sometimes violent.
Thanks to the Western, individual heroes of the West such as Wyatt
Earp, Jesse James, Calamity Jane and the stars that portrayed them
have become legends of mythic proportions. |
